Dental Lumineers

Dental Lumineers are a kind of veneer that have the ability to create a more natural and comfortable replacement smile than some other options available today. Lumineers are actually extremely thin veneers that not only replicate the appearance of natural enamel, but don’t require the grinding and reshaping of the natural tooth that standard veneers may need. Due to the fact that Lumineers leave the natural teeth underneath intact, they are a great choice for someone who is cautious but curious to try a simple means of improving their smile and self confidence. This allows for an easier process overall.

Why Lumineers?

Lumineers can create a beautiful smile in a short amount of time. If you’re facing the possibility of unwanted dental work that could be remedied by Lumineers, or you are just unhappy with the way your teeth appear, Lumineers can provide you with a fast, pain-free option for getting the smile you have always wanted.

In many circumstances, Lumineers can last for 20 years or more and the procedure of placing the Lumineers only takes about an hour. Because Lumineers are so thin, they can cover the natural tooth without the need for filing and shaping the tooth being covered.

The Lumineers Procedure

The process of getting Lumineers usually only takes two visits to Dr. Anderson’s Kansas City, MO cosmetic dentistry office. Dr. Anderson is a Certified Lumineer and Invisalign dentist, dedicated to changing smiles for life. At the first visit you can expect that a mold will be created to get a unique view of your teeth from which the doctor can work off of. Then you and your dentist will work together to determine the correct shade of white for a natural and healthy smile. Varying shades of white allow for the most natural fit with existing teeth so the Lumineered teeth are not obvious and do not stand out in a negative fashion among the other teeth.

Between your first visit and your second visit, your dentist will have your personal Lumineers created. After they are finished, the product will be reviewed for inconsistencies or defects to ensure your new tooth covering is the right shade, texture, size and other specifics. Once the Lumineers have been approved, you will be all set for your second visit.

The next visit is when the doctor will actual place in your Lumineers. After only about an hour, all your Lumineers will be securely placed and you will have the perfect smile you have always dreamed of, without the hassle or teeth reshaping, pain or countless visits to the dental office.

Living with Lumineers

Individuals with Lumineers will not need to worry about what they eat or drink and can be treated the same as you would your natural teeth. But this also means you will need to take care of your teeth, brush and floss at least twice a day, and make regular visit to your dentist for professional cleanings.

If for some reason you are unhappy with your Lumineers, they can be removed. Because you did not need grinding or reshaping of your natural teeth, your Lumineers can be removed and your natural smile returned.

If you have more questions about Lumineers and think they may be the right cosmetic dentistry option for you, contact the Kansas City, MO cosmetic dentistry office of Dr. James Anderson, DDS.

Oral Cancer and HPV

The connection between oral cancer and HPV, human papillomavirus, has been a frequent topic in the news recently. HPV is common and is typically spread through sexual contact. The U.S. Center for Disease and Prevention (CDC) reported that 60 to 70 percent of oropharyngeal cancers, which include the soft palate, base of tongue and tonsils, were linked to HPV. Because the immune system usually will fight HPV infections with no noticeable symptoms, most people never know they are infected. There are

Children and Pet Dental Health Month

National Children’s Dental Health Month is meant to raise awareness about the importance of oral health.  Why is this type of celebration—and year-round attention to children’s dental health–important? Despite the fact that it’s almost entirely preventable, tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in children. The good news is there are safe and effective preventive measures that can protect teeth. Good oral hygiene practices such as thorough brushing with a fluoride toothpaste can help keep children from getting cavities. In
